miniscope
A device outlawed by the Time Lords, the committee on which the Doctor served. Miniscopes used a Time Scoop-like device to take creatures and samples of their habitat. They would be encrypted, reduced to microscopic proportions and kept in self-contained areas in the depths of the miniscope. Via a screen, observers could then view any of the creatures inside the miniscope. Through a variety of controls they could stimulate them emotionally, making them passive or aggressive. The Doctor and Jo Grant became entrapped within a miniscope operated by the Lurman, Vorg, on the planet Inter Minor. Lurman was trying to make some money as a showman. The Doctor managed to escape and used the TARDIS, which Vorg had previously removed, to send all the occupants home seconds before it overheated and exploded. Amongst those known to be inside were Cybermen, Drashigs, Ogrons, humans aboard the SS Bernice and a Plesiosaurus. Each containment area was separated by a small expanse of circuitry and could be accessed by a series of panels, the bolts to which were invisible to the conditioned inhabitants.
