Court astrologer in San Martino, a Renaissance Italian province. Having poisoned the old Duke, Hieronymous was important to Count Federico's attempts to take control, but when the Mandragora Helix arrived on Earth, Hieronymous was blessed with inhuman powers. He organised the Cult of Demnos and used the brethren as additional mediums for the Mandragora energy. Ultimately, the power consumed Hieronymous' physical form until he was just an animated ball of pure Helix energy. The Doctor was able to drain off the power via copper insulated metal, leaving the Helix energy dispersed and Hieronymous dead.
