Chief Scientist of the Kraals, an aggressive race who made their home planet almost uninhabitable due to high radiation levels. Styggron was charged with experimenting with Earth, working out its strengths and weaknesses. Helped by an embittered human astronaut, Guy Crayford, Styggron built a copy of an English village close to Crayford's departure point. As the first stage of their invasion plans, Kraal forces were to repopulate the whole area with androids. Satisfied that the plan would work, Crayford contacted Earth, saying that he'd been lost in space but was now coming home. Android duplicates of major personnel and locals were sent down as an advance guard, while Styggron perfected the disease he would release on Earth to kill off all human life. The Doctor reprogrammed his own android double and it fought Styggron, crushing his head against the phial of viral tissue. Styggron died and the Kraals stayed well away from Earth.
