Slaar was the commander of an Ice Warrior task force who took control of Earth's T-Mat relay station on the moon during the twenty-first century. T-Mat was a form of instantaneous transportation and the moon relay station controlled the moving of food supplies around Earth. The Ice Warriors began transmatting deadly seed pods to relay stations on Earth which, when opened, absorbed oxygen. As Earth weakened, the Ice Warriors then took over the weather control station on Earth, planning to make the planet uninhabitable for humans. The Doctor developed a hand-held heat device which melted many of the Ice Warriors, and he then diverted the main fleet into the sun. In a final battle on the moon base, Slaar was accidentally shot dead by one of his own warriors.
