sisterhood of karn
A group of telekinetic and telepathic young women, plus their aged leader, who worshipped the Sacred Flame. The Sacred Flame heated their cavern and produced the natural Elixir of Life. The Time Lords had an agreement with the Sisterhood regarding the Elixir, which they occasionally used to aid troubled regenerations. In return, the Sisterhood's whereabouts was kept universally secret. The renegade Time Lord Morbius had, however, located Karn and fought a final, pitched battle there. His army decimated much of the planet, before he was sentenced to obliteration - the execution occurring on the planet. For many years, the Sisterhood existed side by side with the human surgeon Mehendri Solon. Although they kept a wary distance from each other, the Sisterhood were aware that Solon was conducting some sort of experiment in his castle. On learning it was Morbius he was trying to rebuild, the Sisterhood aided the Doctor in finally destroying the renegade. Although they believed they had given the last of the Elixir to the Doctor, he reignited the Sacred Flame, providing them with many more years of its unique properties.
