Xenophobic inhabitants of the planet Sense-Sphere, they were capable of existing in space, and communicated via telepathy. They were a paranoid race, physically identical but deeply suspicious of outsiders, whom they preferred to entrap forever rather than kill. Encountering a rocket suspended in orbit, the Doctor went to Sense-Sphere and learned that the Sensorites were being poisoned by a strain of Deadly Nightshade, which the Doctor subsequently discovered the cause of. The Sensorites gratefully allowed their human captives to return home, but asked for the existence of Sense-Sphere to remain a secret.
