Inhabitants of the planet Vortis who relocated to Pictos after the domination of their planet by the Animus. The butterfly-like Menoptra were peaceful, but were prepared to fight back. They joined forces with their underground cousins, the Optera, to overcome the Animus and the Zarbi, primitive ant-like creatures controlled by the Animus. Many Menoptra were prisoners of the Animus. Their wings amputated, they were forced to work until they died. Ultimately, the Menoptra developed the Isop-Tope, which they used to destroy the Animus, freeing Vortis from its grip. With the evil over and the Zarbi back to their docile nature, the Menoptra prepared to return to Vortis and rebuild their civilisation.
