mechonoids
Spherical robots constructed to guard alien worlds while awaiting the arrival of colonists. They landed on a jungle world known as Mechanus and built a large sky city for the colonists. The city kept the colonists safe, as much of the surface vegetation was lethal, including the moving Fungoid plants that devoured anything they could. A young space pilot, Steven Taylor, crash landed on Mechanus after his ship was damaged during a space war. He was taken prisoner by the Mechonoids as he could not convince the robots that he was not a threat. He was their prisoner for two years before the TARDIS arrived, fifty years after the Mechonoids had arrived. The Daleks materialised a short while later and followed the TARDIS crew into the high metal city. The Mechonoids considered the TARDIS crew their prisoners, who had to be kept safe, and engaged the Daleks in battle. Before long, the metallic city was being destroyed and the Doctor led his friends to safety back down to the surface, dodging the Fungoids. Steven Taylor also escaped with them. The Daleks and Mechonoids destroyed each other, with the huge city crashing down into the jungle.
