Inhabitants of the planet Alzarius within E-Space. Marshmen lived under the marshes that covered the planet. They were part of an on-going evolutionary development of the Alzarius that restarted every four thousand years. The Marshmen were evolved from Marshspiders and would ultimately evolve into humanoids. One group of such evolved Marshmen believed themselves to be the descendants of colonists from Terradon. They strove to destroy the more primitive Marshmen when the cycle began anew. After realising the truth, the evolved Marshmen elected to leave Alzarius and head for a new life on Terradon. The Doctor's companion, Adric, was one of these evolved Marshmen.
