magma beast
Inhabitants of the planet Androzani Minor, the smaller of two neighbouring planets within the Sirius system planet, the other being Androzani Major. Androzani Minor was formed of molten mud and riddled with underground tunnels and caverns, the very lowest regions of which were populated by giant bats. The bats' nests could be harvested into spectrox by the humans although contact with the raw spectrox induced spectrox toxemia. The only cure for this was an ingestion of milk produced by the queen bats. The cave system was also inhabited by the dragon-like Magma Beasts, whose armoured hide protected them from the worst of the frequent molten mud bursts which erupted, flooding the caves and tunnels with boiling mud. The Magma Beasts were very protective of the cave, attacking anything that got too close to their territory. The human soldiers that frequently patrolled the tunnels, searching for Sharaz Jek and his gun-runners, knew to stay well away from the Magma Beasts. The Doctor was attacked by a Magma Beast but he escaped. Later, on returning to the area after a particularly heavy mud burst, the Doctor discovered that the Magma Beast had succumbed to the boiling mud.
