Inhabitants of the planet Oseidon, the natural radiation there had made it almost uninhabitable. Although aggressive and warlike, Kraal society was led by its scientists rather than the military, who determined that they could colonise another planet. They encountered the wreckage of an Earth space shuttle near Jupiter and retrieved the astronaut, Guy Crayford. They brainwashed Crayford into thinking that they had repaired his injuries and convinced him that Earth had betrayed him. He agreed to allow them access to his mind, giving them the image of the area around the space centre to which he would return. They built a replica of it on Oseidon, populating it with android duplicates with which they were training to replace the real humans once on Earth. Their chief scientist, Styggron, developed an easily spread virus that would kill humans on contact. The invasion of Earth began, but the Doctor was able to disable all the androids with a low angled radio pulse from the space station's antenna. He then reprogrammed his own android to fight Styggron, which it did, and the scientist was killed by his own virus. The Kraals, realising their scheme was thwarted, fled.
