For hundreds of years the two indigenous populations of the planet Skaro waged war against each other, beginning with sophisticated neutronic weaponry that destroyed most life on the surface. Over the next few hundred years, the survivors continued building and destroying, determined to erase their foes from the face of Skaro. As the war went on, the weapons got tamer as technology became starved. One of the Kaled scientists, Davros, realised that the war had taken a devastating toll on the genetic structure of new-born Kaleds and developed a special travel machine to house the mutant Kaleds. He accelerated the mutation and so created the first Daleks.
