A favourite period of Earth history for both the Doctor and Susan Foreman. They were there with Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright when Robspierre's downfall occurred. Ian became embroiled in a British plan to smuggle the aristocrats out of France. He tried to locate the spy, James Stirling, while Barbara and Susan were sentenced to death by beheading. The Doctor posed as a French official to secure their release and they all left Paris together as the revolution was in full swing. Robspierre was taken to be executed, leaving others in charge until Napoleon Bonaparte took control of France and again raised the tricolore.
