androgums
Aggressive humanoid inhabitants of the Third Zone who specialised in culinary skills. The Androgums were separated into different castes, some of greater social importance than others, known as Grigs. The Qwancing Grig and the Franzine Grig were two of them. Androgums were employed by various different species to work as cooks, and one, Shockeye was chief cook aboard J7, a science space station. With his fellow Androgums, Shockeye prepared a succession of glorious meals enjoyed by everyone on J7, although he frequently wanted to travel to other planets, sample their cuisine and bring back foodstuffs. Also aboard J7 was Chessene, an Androgum whose senses and intelligence had been augmented by the scientist Dastari. Unfortunately, this meant Chessene's ambition was higher than most and with Dastari and Shockeye, she betrayed J7 to the Sontarans. Kidnapping the Doctor, they travelled to Earth, trying to remove the Doctor's symbiotic nuclei and so power up the time travel modules stolen from J7. Chessene, however, killed Dastari and the Sontarans, attempting to steal the modules herself. The sight and taste of blood began to break down her conditioning and partially restored her natural Androgum instincts. The Doctor was injected with Androgum genes and temporally became one.
