Inhabitants of the planet Ruta III, a damp, foggy planet. Rutans used crystalline technology in their ships and equipment. They could reassemble their unstable molecules into any other shape, which meant that they could easily climb walls, slide under doors and infiltrate enemy encampments. The Rutans had been at war with Sontarans for many thousands of years. So long, in fact, that few knew or understood the war's origin. Their battles stretched across much of the galaxy and, in human terms, was going on during the twelfth century and still raging nearly fourteen thousand years later.
