When the planet Earth was about to be destroyed by its own sun, many humans were miniaturised and placed aboard a vast space ark, along with many Monoids, whose planet had suffered a similar fate. Together they were headed for Refusis II, a planet researched, through space audio, as being suitable for colonisation. Earth-like, Refusis II was occupied by the invisible Refusians. The Refusians allowed the now warring humans and Monoids to make a new home on Refusis II, on the proviso that they made peace.
