recovery of mars probe 7

After the successful landing on Mars by Mars Probe 6, led by General Carrington, a further ship was sent there, but contact was lost. A recovery probe, piloted by Charles van Lyden was dispatched. However, contact was also temporarily lost with the recovery probe. Eventually it returned to Earth, but empty. It had, however, briefly contained three peaceful alien ambassadors who were kidnapped by the xenophobic Carrington in an attempt to keep Earth a closed world. Carrington was exposed and the Doctor began negotiations with the aliens for the return of the missing astronauts who were alive and well.
