A sentient computer placed on Zeos by the Shadow to further the war between Zeos and Atrios while he searched for the sixth segment of the Key to Time. Mentalis was constructed by the fugitive Time Lord engineer Drax. K9 was able to communicate with Mentalis and learn about its programming, although he was unable to convince it to stop. When Mentalis realised that the Atrians were launching a missile attack to vaporise the whole planet, it began the armageddon factor, which would cause Mentalis to explode and destroy both Atrios and Zeos. Drax and the Doctor managed to disassemble Mentalis before this occurred.
