Insane millionaire botanist who saw plants as the true natural inheritor of Earth. When alien Krynoid pods were uncovered in the Antarctic, he acquired one through nefarious means, allowing it to germinate and grow. Linking his mind with the fearsome intelligence of the Krynoid, Chase became its human pawn and tried to kill the Doctor by pushing him into a huge crusher. In the battle between the two, it was Chase who actually fell into the machine and was reduced to compost to be sprayed onto his lush gardens. Chase's mansion and gardens of rare plant life were destroyed when the Krynoid was blown up.
