drashigs
Ferocious, caterpillar-like reptilian omnivores which inhabited a swamp-infested moon of the planet Grundle. Once the Drashigs got hold of a scent, they would not give up on their prey until it had been caught and devoured, even if that meant smashing their way through steel panelling. Such prey included the Doctor and Jo Grant, who encountered the Drashigs while trying to navigate the inside of the Miniscope, reduced to only a few centimetres height. The Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to ignite the marsh gas which surrounded the Drashigs, but to little avail - they had smelled the Doctor and Jo, who were now their prey. The Drashigs broke through into the Miniscopes' internal mechanisms and were able to break free of the machine and out of its forcefield, thanks to the machinations of an Inter Minorian official named Kalik. Kalik wanted to stop his brother Zarb, the new President, from introducing new, liberal laws and saw an escape by alien monsters as a good way to reassert his peoples' xenophobia. The result would be a scandal that would usurp Zarb. When three Drashigs escaped, the first thing they did was to eat Kalik before Vorg shot them all dead with a laser gun.
