Inhabitants of the planet Damos, devil-like creatures that could shrink and grow at will. They used their advanced psionic sciences to propel the speed of evolution on other planets, treating the life they encountered as nothing more than laboratory experiments. They destroyed those races or planets they considered a failure. A Daemon, Azal, was left on Earth and went into hibernation, only to be awakened by the Master. Knowing he was soon to die, Azal chose to pass on his psionic power to a responsible being, and chose the Doctor. The Master used a portion of Azal's power to animate Bok.
