Axonite appeared to be a wonderful synthetic mineral that could increase the mass of foodstuffs, solving mankind's food problems forever. It was offered to humanity by the apparently benign Axons, who landed on Earth, seeking help and energy to repair their living space craft. As a result, many Earth governments began bickering amongst themselves over who had the right to own and oversee distribution of Axonite. In actual fact, Axonite absorbed the energy from Earth. The Doctor tricked the Axons into entering a time loop, travelling through the same few points of space and time for eternity.
