assassination of the time lord president
The Doctor received mental images of the President of the High Council of Time Lords being assassinated and was accused of the murder. After linking himself to the Matrix, the Doctor learned that the Master was behind the assassination, using Chancellor Goth as the killer. The Master was planning to steal the power of the Eye of Harmony to recreate a new regenerative cycle and managed to siphon a fraction of its power before being stopped. Although Goth was revealed as the traitor, Time Lord history was rewritten to blame the Master, making a martyr out of Goth.
