The Lady Adastra was the tyrannical ruler of Chloris, who set her wolfweeds on anyone who annoyed her. Those who especially displeased her were thrown to the creature from the pit. The creature was really a Tythonian ambassador she had captured some years previously, and its communication device was now a trophy on her wall. The Doctor quickly foiled Adastra's schemes and once her base treachery was exposed to her people, the wolfweeds were turned on her. The Tythonian ambassador, long starved of a good meal, was allowed to eat both her remains and the wolfweeds.
